Who was Leonardo Da Vinci?
Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15th 1452 and died May 2nd 1519 in France. He was an Italian painter, inventor, sculptor, architect, writer, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and musician. He is described as one of the most talented people in the world, because of his diversity and knowledge. He is also someone who had great curiosity and a great inventive imagination.
A few of his famous works include, “The Last Supper” and “The Mona Lisa”. His works still influence artist today. Although he was a famous artist he was also a famous inventor. Some of his inventions include, the Aerial Screw, which intrigued other inventors to make the helicopter. He also attempted to fly but it did not work. Leonardo da Vinci based his design off of nature, for example his flying machine is based off of the design of a bird. When he studied the body he compared the way blood flows to the way a river flows.
The Mona Lisa is perhaps one of the most famous pieces of art work in history. He spent four years working on the Mona Lisa. It is one of the most reproduced art works in history. There are t-shirts, posters, and reproduced paintings. Today, it is secured behind bulletproof glass at the Louvre, in Paris, France.
The Last Supper was another one of Leonardo da Vinci's greatest paintings. It is one of the most famous paintings in the world, it is also one of the most studied art work. He started painting it around 1495. The scene in this painting is when Jesus tells his apostles that one of them will betray him.
Some of his inventions include, the aerial screw, the anemometer, the parachute, the flying machine, the armored car, the giant crossbow, a more accurate clock, the ideal city, the robotic knight, scuba gear, and the revolving bridge. We still base things off of these inventions today. The aerial screw is one of Leonardo da Vinci's greatest inventions, here is a little bit more about it:
Leonardo da Vinci’s invention of the aerial screw is one of his most famous inventions. The aerial screw was meant to compress air and then fly. The aerial screw was meant to be 15 feet long and powered by four men who would rotate it, Leonardo believed that it would then lift off the ground, but modern scientists say that it would be to heavy to lift off. The aerial screw was never made or tested but Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches show just how it would look and work. The aerial screw inspired people to make the helicopter.
He left 7,000 notes behind. Since he did not know Latin, and he did not build many of his inventions, his idea's had almost little to no impact on the science of the time.
He also studied the body. He dissected over thirty corpses, and drew many sketches of what he saw.
He is believed to have died of natural causes.
